Along with Christmas and Halloween, Chinese New Year is one of our favorite holidays at CM. When I asked the children what we were celebrating that week, many of them raised their voices to answer “Chinese New Year!”

Many of our children have Chinese roots and we feel so privileged to be able to celebrate this holiday with them! We were able to work around Chinese New Year at our storytime, math lessons, and, of course, group time!

For our group time, we made lots of decorations for the coming celebration. One of them was a rat papercraft to represent the year of the rat in the Chinese Zodiac.

And of course, we couldn`t miss the lanterns! It is an important mark for the Spring Festival/ Lantern Festival. It symbolizes reunion, a time to socializing and freedom. And of course, in the past, the lanterns were necessary for people to go outside in the night to celebrate!

The lanterns are always their favorite craft. The idea is very simple and they get to practice their scissor and glue skills.

Look how beautiful our decorations turned out!

What else do we need? A beautiful Chinese New Year feast! Yummy!
